  2011 Monthly Meetings

  • Regular Meetings for 2011 will be held at Lutheran School of Theology, 1100 East 55th Street, Chicago, IL 60615. We meet the 2nd Saturday of each month from 4p.m.- 6p.m. (NOTE: We do not meet in February)

  • The Beating Breast Cancer Program - The goal of the Beating Breast Cancer Program is to improve rates of mammography screening, rescreening, and timely diagnostic follow-up in African American women living in four medically un-deserved communities by addressing barriers to regular screening. - Read Additional Details (PDF)

  • Black Nurses Day in Chicago – On Friday February 4th, 2011, over 225 nurses, student nurses, members of the city and state healthcare systems, relatives and friends, gathered together, despite the frigid cold and the tons of snow to attend the 23rd National Black Nurses’ Day celebration held in Chicago which honored 25 nurses (RNs and LPNs) . These honorees display the strong traits and characteristics of our Black Nurse sheros’ and forerunners, such as Mary Eliza Mahoney, Emma Reynolds and our own founder, Dr. Lauranne Sams and others. Nurses honored were minimally celebrating 50 years in “nursing”. Five CCNBNA nurses were honored for 50 years or greater service in nursing (Dr. Shirley Howard, Dr. Hilda Richards, Regina Powell, Thelma Miller and Alexine Wilson-Bey. This event was approved by the Illinois Nurses Association for 3 contact hours.

  • May 18 is HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is the lead for this day.

  • June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. The National Association of People with AIDS is the lead for this day .
July 13- 17, 2011

  • National Black Nurses Association 40th Institute & Conference was held July 13- 17, 2011 in Indianapolis, Indiana. President Dr. Debra Toney climaxed her 4 year tenure with an all white gala ball. She passed the gabbier to the new President of the National Black Nurses Association - Reverend-Dr Deidra Walton, JD.
